The Zoo celebrates Asian Pacific month with a day filled with the sights, sounds and tastes of the people, culture and animals of the Asian continent. Dancers from Eastridge Elementary School will demonstrate Lao, Vietnamese, Dragon, Burmese, Karen and Karenni dances. Visitors can have their name written in Thai language and get up close to a 12-foot albino Burmese python. Sample some edible insects like chocolate dipped mealworms or crispy fried crickets; watch a demonstration of iaijutus (samurai swords) and bukijutsu (ancient weapons) by Lee Gray and his students from the Amarillo Martial Arts Center. Enjoy a presentation about our Bengal Tigers and make sure the kids can make a special take home craft.
