Incredible Edible Insects
Come Celebrate the Fascinating World of Insects and Spiders
Come one, come all, but most of all – come hungry! The Zoo is hosting the Incredible Edible Insect event on Saturday, June 8 from 9:30am to 3:00pm and it promises to be a fun day focused on the fascinating world of insects and spiders. The highlight of the event will be a variety of insect- based dishes visitors can sample, if they wish, or they may enjoy watching others as they explore a different form of cuisine. Celebrity Chefs Mark Coffman from Sava Italiano and Chef Bud from Back to the Table with Chef Bud will be present to let visitors sample their insect inspired dishes. Plus, other samples folks may try include chocolate chirp cookies, six-legged surprise and poached wax worms and honey (will supplies lasts!). For those less daring the Zoo concession stand will be open for lunch and snacks.
Visitors can also make an attempt at breaking the world’s record for spitting a cricket. The current record stands at over 30 feet, but with the Texas winds we feel we have a real chance at an “unofficial” new record!
Adult division 11:00pm
Junior Division 1:00pm
Plus, visitors can see a large variety of live and mounted insect displays courtesy of West Texas A&M and the Zoo, participate in an insect craft to take home plus listen to the music of Andy Chase Cundiff (11am – 2pm).
